BMW 3 Series Parts to Know

Buyer's Guide

The 3 Series is the BMW to buy. The 2019+ G20 with the B48 4-cylinder is the most reliable modern 3 Series. Avoid 2012-2015 models with the N20 unless the timing chain has been replaced. The 330i is the sweet spot — the M340i is faster but more complex. CPO with remaining warranty is the safest buy. Budget $2,000-$3,000/year for maintenance on an out-of-warranty model.
